1205 – General Surgeon

Reports To:                 CEO/Hospital Administrator

FLSA:                          Exempt

Experience:                 3-5 years experience preferred

Requirements:             Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon; Idaho License

Occupational Summary: Provide medical services to patients; collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Independently oversee care and management of the patients in a rural Critical Access Hospital.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, diagnose medical and surgical problems and prescribe necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient’s record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings.
• Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
• Participate in teaching medical students and physician assistant students in techniques and procedures, which are unique to specific clinical setting.
• Collaborate with other providers and participate in med staff meetings and activities
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
• Have proven communication and interpersonal skills to work with physician/patients/clients/residents/co-workers, management, visitors, etc.
• Adhere to confidentiality requirements.
• Possess a high level of integrity.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
